Rohnert Park Police Investigate Reported Carjacking Near Office Depot

Rohnert Park police are investigating a reported carjacking at an Office Depot parking lot on Aug. 27. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Richmond and returned to the Petaluma resident who reported it stolen.

The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is investigating a reported carjacking that occurred Aug. 27 in the parking lot of the Office Depot at 321 Rohnert Park Expressway, according to the city. Dispatchers received the report at about 7:08 p.m. The victim, a Petaluma resident, told officers she was walking to her vehicle when an adult Black male approached her and demanded the vehicle. She reported that the man pushed her before driving away. The suspect was described as approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with short curly hair. He was reportedly wearing a black coat and black pants. Officers pursued the vehicle toward Richmond with assistance from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, the Henry-1 helicopter and neighboring law enforcement agencies, the city said. Officers later lost sight of the vehicle. It was subsequently found abandoned in Richmond, recovered and eventually returned to the victim. Rohnert Park DPS said it is continuing to follow up on leads to identify the suspect. The case remains under investigation, and the department is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Rohnert Park.
