Rohnert Park extended the nomination period for candidates seeking its District 2 City Council seat in the November 2026 general election, giving prospective candidates until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, to submit required paperwork and proof of eligibility.
The city announced the extension Aug. 7 through the City Clerk’s Office. The change followed a provision in California Elections Code Section 10229 that allows an extension when an incumbent does not return nomination papers by the regular deadline. The original deadline was 5 p.m. Aug. 7.
Qualified registered voters who live in Rohnert Park’s District 2 were eligible to run. The person elected will begin a council term in December 2026, with the term expected to continue through December 2030.
Nomination packets were to be issued by the City Clerk’s Office by appointment. The city said there was no filing fee. Prospective candidates could contact City Clerk and Elections Official Sylvia Lopez Cuevas at 707-588-2227 or cityclerk@rpcity.ca.gov to schedule an appointment or request additional information.
The city also directed residents to its election information resources to identify their council district and review voter registration information through Sonoma County election services.
