A full reconstruction and repaving project is underway on March Avenue, one of Healdsburg’s main east-west routes, with work scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays through Sept. 2, the Healdsburg Tribune reported.
Construction began Aug. 24. The road will remain open in both directions, and no work is scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 29-30. Once the new pavement is complete, crews will add roadway markings and signs.
March Avenue is expected to retain parking on both sides of the street, along with marked bicycle lanes. The project also includes pedestrian improvements: two new crosswalks, flashing beacons activated by pedestrians, and curb changes and bulb-outs designed to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
The roadway has previously received several chip-seal treatments, a lower-cost resurfacing method intended to extend a street’s life. The Tribune reported that multiple layers had deteriorated and separated over time, prompting the current full reconstruction. The new work is expected to provide a longer-lasting surface.
Argonaut Constructors is the primary contractor. The company’s work order includes both the paving and the pedestrian-related improvements.
As of February, the project’s total construction cost was estimated at $2.967 million, while Argonaut’s bid was $2.427 million, according to the Tribune. Additional project information is available at healdsburg.gov/marchave.
