Rohnert Park Laundry Room Fire Displaces Resident

A laundry-room fire at a Rohnert Park residence on Maria Place displaced a resident Friday night after damaging the home’s electrical system and sending smoke throughout the property, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety. The department received a report of a possible structure fire at about 7:27 p.m. on Aug. 21, 2026. A nearby neighbor reported seeing black smoke coming from the home’s exterior dryer vent and hearing the fire alarm. Rohnert Park fire engines and crews from the Sonoma County Fire District responded. The first engine arrived at approximately 7:32 p.m., and firefighters located the fire in the laundry room. Crews contained it there and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the residence, the department said. Damage was estimated at about $20,000 and was primarily confined to the laundry room. The home was red-tagged because of damage to its electrical system and smoke damage throughout the residence. It will require further inspection before it can be occupied. The cause remains under investigation, although officials said they believe it may have started with an electrical issue involving a fan in the laundry room. American Red Cross assistance was offered to the resident and declined. The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety thanked the Sonoma County Fire District for assisting with the response.
