The program is designed to reduce problems associated with alcohol outlets and prevent underage access to alcoholic beverages. Its approach includes education for alcohol licensees, enforcement actions and a greater local law-enforcement presence. Rohnert Park’s department will work with the Cotati Police Department and Sonoma State University Police Department on alcohol-related issues and enforcement within their respective jurisdictions. The program targets both businesses licensed to sell alcohol and people who provide alcohol to underage minors or department decoys. According to the city, the partnership is intended to reduce underage drinking and related driving under the influence injuries and fatalities, as well as property damage. The project is scheduled to run through June 2027. The city thanked the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Department for the grant and said the agencies would work together to promote legal alcohol sales and safe consumption in the community.
